Mariana Peloso do Nascimento

I think the presentation and essays that we had to do in the Foundation course have helped me a lot to be able to complete my course work. Also, the Art lessons thought me a lot about the creative process which has been very helpful.

Mariana Peloso do Nascimento is studying Film Production at the University for the Creative Arts

How are you enjoying life at university so far?
I have fallen for my university and I am enjoying it very much. It is different from what I had expected but a good different and it has been a great experience.

What does your course (Film Production) involve in terms of hours per week, and study modules? What aspect of the course are you enjoying most?
It is a very intense course in terms of amount of work and you are expected to do a lot on your own outside of the classes. If I am not mistaken each unit consists of 200 hours including classes, individual studies/work and workshops. I am learning a lot in all modules and I like how we are encouraged to try a bit of each aspect of filmmaking so we can make a good decision when we specialise next year.

Are you enjoying living in your new city?
I quite like Farnham even though it is very different from what I am used to. It is a very small town, which is good because everything is close and I feel very safe.

Are there particular things which you did on your Foundation course that have proved useful for your current studies?
I think the presentation and essays that we had to do in the Foundation course have helped me a lot to be able to complete my course work. Also, the Art lessons thought me a lot about the creative process which has been very helpful.

How would you summarise your experience at Kings Oxford?
I think it was the step I needed to get used to how things work in the UK. It was the ideal experience and place to help me acclimatize with the new environment and way of learning.

Do you know yet what your plans for the future are? Would you like to stay in Europe?
I don’t really know because the filmmaking business is not very predictable. I think it depends on what job I can get once I am done.

What advice would you give to students considering taking the Foundation at Kings?
I say go for it. I made great friends and had a great experience. It is a great way to learn and it will help you a lot at university life.
