While the IELTS preparation course is designed to help you prepare for the IELTS test whilst providing a good number of hours of General English, this course is a full-time, very intensive course, which concentrates 100% on IELTS preparation and is designed to prepare you thoroughly for the exam in as short a time as possible.

Please note Kings Oxford is also an IELTS Testing Centre so we can arrange for you to take your IELTS as well as give you the best preparation for the exam.

Course structure

Week 1 — Preparing for the exam:
You will learn to adapt your existing language skills to interpret and employ the distinctive patterns of academic English.

Weeks 2-3 — Exam practice: 
You will practise intensively each of the 4 modules of the exam.

  • Listening (30 minutes of the exam)
  • Reading (60 minutes of the exam)
  • Writing (60 minutes of the exam) 
  • Speaking (11–14 minutes of the exam)

You will do practice tests under exam conditions and specialist teachers will give you feedback on your performance.

About the exam

The IELTS exam has become the largest and most respected test of English for educational and training purposes in the world. It is taken by over a million candidates each year. It tests both general and academic English.

Most universities require an IELTS score of 6.0 - 6.5 for undergraduate
courses and 6.5 or 7.0 for postgraduate courses.

The IELTS exam is recognised by the majority of universities in the UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and by over 380 universities and colleges in the USA. 

IELTS is also used by a number of professional and government institutions worldwide.

We will advise you about the best date to take your IELTS exam and will help you enrol for it. Candidates are usually expected to enrol for the exam at least 5 weeks in advance.
