Mission statement

At Kings, our mission is to provide a general and linguistic education for young people from all over the world intent on studying in an Anglophone environment — developing and nurturing every student to help them achieve personal growth, personal achievement and the best learning outcome for their individual circumstances, ability and needs. We strive to create life-changing and long-lasting memories, and to help our students make ambitious, well-informed and broad-minded choices about the way they lead their future lives.

Our history

Kings Colleges was established in 1957. Since then, tens of thousands of international students have studied with us.

Our Bournemouth college was first opened through a partnership between Mr. Frederick King and Robert Watts. After the death of Mr King, Robert Watts assumed full ownership of the Bournemouth college.

In 1966 we opened our London college in Beckenham, and in 1986 Kings Oxford was added to our group of colleges.

Over the years, Kings has been a pioneer in international education programmes. In the 1970s, we were one of the very first colleges to welcome significant numbers of students from China and Asia.

In 2008, Robert Watts sold Kings Colleges to Prime Education.

Today, with a fresh new brand identity, and a Management team which combines new thinking with seasoned experience, Kings Colleges has a renewed commitment to service, quality and results.

Now in our sixth decade of change and development, one thing has remained consistent. We give every single one of our students a warm welcome, outstanding teaching, an active social life and a complete learning experience.

  • small class sizes and plentiful learning resources
  • high levels of motivation and expectation
  • a general absence of poor student behaviour

Aims of the colleges

Kings is an international community. We also want it to be:

A learning community in which people:

  • acquire new knowledge and understanding
  • enjoy the experience of learning

A tolerant community whose members:

  • accept that people from different cultures may think, believe and behave differently
  • enjoy these differences and try to learn from them

A courteous community whose members:

  • are proud of the cultures they represent but can adapt in order to get on with others
  • understand that others may judge their culture by the way they behave
  • want to be better communicators, within and between cultures

A generous community in which people:

  • help one another to learn
  • understand that all learners have different needs which cannot all be met at the same time

A hard-working community where people:

  • know that to make progress in learning they need to study
  • understand that they must take responsibility for their own learning

An ambitious community whose members:

  • try to achieve the highest standards in everything they do
  • want to be better citizens of the world

An innovative community whose members:

  • champion creativity and a spirit of enquiry
  • challenge and seek to improve the way they do things
  • seek to raise awareness of social and environmental issues

A caring community whose members:

  • treat people with fairness and integrity
  • take practical, daily steps to protect our environment and planet
  • give generously in time, money and spirit to local and global community projects

Our students

At Kings we value our students above all else. We recognise the immense contribution they make, collectively and individually, towards ensuring our college communities are rich, dynamic and purposeful. We are dedicated to educating and mentoring them in ways which recognise their individual needs and ambitions, and which will make a real difference to their available range of skills, experiences and future opportunities.

We want all of our students to share in our values and objectives, and to work with us to try to achieve them.

We measure success in this by how much our students:

  • acquire new knowledge and skills which allow and encourage them to move forwards in their educational, professional or personal careers
  • move forwards in these careers with greater confidence, ambition and self-awareness
  • understand more about the personal choices and possibilities available to them
  • understand more about the wider issues facing the world and their personal responsibilities in this regard
  • take pleasure in being part of an international community where opportunities for friendship and fun are integral to the learning experience
  • leave with fond and long-lasting memories and a sense of personal growth
